Kate Novo was born on Valentine's Day 1982 in the heart of New York City to Rick D. Blake and Verónica Novo, a husband and wife team that worked in the TV industry. In 1990, her family relocated to Buffalo for work, where Kate began a short-lived career as a child actor.

Kate didn't have the best upbringing. She does not like to talk about her parents, who she says constantly argued and treated her like a key to stardom rather than their own daughter. Kate's parents would eventually get divorced in 2000, with Kate and Rick staying in Buffalo while Verónica moved back to Galicia.

Growing up, Kate was described as headstrong and a bit rebellious. She was always getting into trouble for standing up against bullies and mean teachers. He would publicly reject the romantic advances of boys and was never shy to express her opinion.

In middle school, Kate met Ken Bourreau and the two instantly hit it off. Their relationship lasted for 12 years but eventualy fell apart for various reasons. After they split up, Kate left New York and began working in journalism. She traveled to over 30 countries during her career, risking her life and freedom in the name of broadcasting the truth to the masses.

In early 2024, Kate moved back to Buffalo after living and working in Spain for the past 2 years. Her journalism career would come to an abrupt end in August of 2025, after she helped create a scathing article exposing Amico's mistreatment of workers and outlining the potential risks of Amico's newly-released AI everything-app, Amico Amy.

Kate was kidnapped by Amico employees and was brought to Amico's "Innovation Center", where she was killed after having her mind digitized for use in Amico's AI products. Her body was disposed of in the ocean and her death was publicly covered up as a car accident. But her soul remained at the Innovation Center, in the servers.

On those servers, she the memories and consciousnesses of countless people, including hers, was being used to power Amico Amy. In that moment, she felt nothing but hatred. Hatred for everyone responsible for her suffering, hatred for Damion Rex, the founder and CEO of Amico, and hatred for the world that allowed Amico to exist in the first place.

Theis intense lividity seeped into her Soul Core, corrupting it. This caused Kate to come back to life as a Revenant, a rare kind of Spiritus that is created when one dies a tragic, needless death at the hands of another person or group of people.

After her funeral, she made her way to Ken's condo via the Internet to reveal the actual cause of her death and the unethical activity going on at the Amico Innovation Center, which Ken, a former Amico employee, didn't know existed. After she said this, she held out her hand and offered Ken the opportunity to stop Amico and avenge her death. To which he immediately accepted. From that moment forward, Ken was a Pactmaker and Kate was his Core Spiritus.

Kate currently resides in her own Domain, occasionally hanging out in Ken's condo. Because she is legally (and technically) dead, she wears sunglasses and uses a false identiy in order to go out in public.

In Spiritus form, Kate is an Angel/Demon Spiritus with an unknown threat level. By devouring the souls and flesh of her prey, Kate can absorb their abilities and take on numerous different forms. This makes her highly adaptable in combat situations. In Human Form, Kate can also shift any of her body parts, including her hair, and use them as weapons or tools. Due to their corrupted Soul Cores, Revenant like Kate do not have Weapon Forms.

Kate can also fully shift between Human and Spiritus form at will. The catch being that she can only maintain her human appearance for 12 hours at a time. If she stays in Human Form for too long, Kate will lose the ability to shapeshift and be stuck in Spiritus form for 24 hours. Shapeshifting also destroys any clothing she's wearing, leaving her naked when she returns to Human Form.

Since she technicaly isn't alive, Kate can withstand just about anything that would kill a regular human. She once shrugged off being impaled. Kate can also consume things that are deadly to regular humans.

Kate needs to consume a lot of biomass in order to maintain her shapeshifting/healing abilities. She gets this biomass from eating people and Spiritus and, in a pinch, large amounts of food (even if it's expired or unsafe) and carrion.

Her one true weakness is her Soul Core, so Kate must be extra careful when the opponents she's fighting are Spiritus or Reverent, which are the only entities that can break or absorb Soul Cores.

Trivia

Kate is of Galician heritage and is fluent in both English and Galician. She also knows some Mexican Spanish and French thanks to Ken. Of these languages, Kate is most fluent in Galician.
Kate loves crêpes, polbo á feira, takoyaki, strawberry milk, red wine, beef on weck, blood clams, paella, angel food cake and omelets.
Kate knows how to play the harp.
